Fast allergy signs are an emergency
A serious allergic reaction may come on in seconds or minutes. Trouble breathing, trouble swallowing, swelling of the face, eyes, or tongue, fainting, or loss of consciousness can be signs of anaphylaxis.
- Call 911 or the local emergency number for severe signs of anaphylaxis.
- Sepsis is the body’s extreme response to infection and is a life-threatening medical emergency.

These signs do not belong in a care pathway
As of September 2026, federal law is broken when a prescription medicine is handed out with no prescription. The FDA also treats a “research use only” product sold for people as an unapproved drug, not a shortcut to care. Selling it with mixing water, a dosing guide, or a dose calculator shows the seller expects people to inject it.
- No named prescriber or no way to ask the clinician a question.
- No prescription required for a prescription medicine.
- A vial marked “research use only” beside mixing supplies or a dosing guide.
- A compounded product described as FDA-approved or the same as an approved drug.
- A pharmacy name that cannot be found in a state licence record.

The label and temperature still matter
GLP-1 medicines are weight and diabetes medicines such as semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound), and many come as shots that must stay cold. The FDA has had complaints about compounded GLP-1 shots arriving warm, and it says not to use a GLP-1 shot that arrives warm or poorly chilled.
- Match the pharmacy on the label to the pharmacy named before payment.
- Check for damage, missing instructions, or a label with spelling or address errors.
- Contact the prescriber and pharmacy when the product, package, or temperature is not what was promised.
- If something goes wrong with a medicine, you can tell the FDA through MedWatch.
